In this article, you are going to learn how to get more YouTube subscribers in 2020.
Here are the exact strategies I have used to get my channel from zero to 263,000 subscribers:
And today I 'm going to show you how I did it…
… and how you can do the same.
1. Use "Power Playlists "
"Power Playlists " are like playlists … but better.
Here's exactly how they work:
You see, most playlists are organized by subject .
But Power playlists are different.
Instead of topics, Power Playlists are organized by results .
Here is an example from my ch annel:
As you can see, the title of this playlist is a result :
Which makes people A LOT more likely to watch my playlist… and subscribe.
And that leads us to…
2. Post LONG videos (over10 minutes)
Yes, that goes against conventional wisdom.
But stay with me.
We recently made largest study of YouTube ranking factors ever .
In this study, we analyzed 11 factors that could help rank video in YouTube's search engine.
And we found something surprising:
Longer videos rank better in YouTube search results.
For example, last year I posted this video.
As you can see my video is almost 14 minutes long:
And that 's one of the main reasons why it ranks in the top 5 of YouTube for the keyword: " backs ":
3. Dones promoting videos in your final screen
Here's the deal:
The more videos you watch, the more likely to s 'subscribe.
The question is:
How do you get people to watch 2, 5 or even 10 of your videos?
Promote another video in your End screen .
Here is an example of my string:
This simple "Next video " drove LOTS more views and subscribers:
Here is how you can do the same:
First, include 10 seconds time at the end of your videos specifically for your end screen.
Here's what mine looks like in the raw video file:
Then use the screen editor at the end of YouTube to add a link to an associated video:
That's all there is to do 🙂
4. Branding Watermark = Subscribe button
This is the ultimate hack for YouTube subscribers.
You probably know that you can add a Branded watermark to your videos.
This watermark allows viewers to subscribe to your channel inside your video.
Unfortunately, most branded watermarks are completely ignored .
Once I added this watermark to all my videos:
And it did absolutely nothing.
So I decided to try something new.
Instead of a watermark that looked cool…
… I used one that looked like a regular YouTube subscribe button.
And it worked!
My new watermark generated 70% more subscribers than my old one.
5. Con focus on quality ... not quantity
When I first launched my YouTube channel, I read the same advice over and over again:
"If you want to grow your channel, you need to upload videos regularly."
In the end, that 's HORRID advice.
I'll get you explain.
When I started my channel, I posted videos on a consistent schedule…
… but no one watched them.
And the few people who watched my videos didn't even bother to subscribe.
It was REALLY frustrating.
So I decided to change things.
Instead of quantity, I decided to focus 100% on quality.
And this "quality over quantity " video marketing worked like magic.
Flash forward to 'till today and my channel generates over 200,000 views per month among only 28 videos in total:
And as I put all my heart and soul in every video, almost 8,000 people subscribe to my channel every month:
6. Respond to ALL comments
This is one of the EASIER ways to get more subscribers.
In fact, internal YouTube data found a clear correlation between response to comments and subscribers:
Why does this help?
Well, most YouTubers never respond to comments.
Which means you instantly stand out when you do it.
C that's why I'm doing my best to respond to as many comments as possible.
(Especially right after posting a new video)
7. Write a convincing channel deionante
Your The YouTube channel deion is HUGE.
(Especially when it comes to video SEO)
Unfortunately, most string deions look something like this:
Imagine you are about to subscribe to this channel.
Will this deion make you jump for the subscribe button?
Compare this weak deion with this one:
See the difference?
This about page works because it:
- Tells you what the channel is
- Gives you important information about the channel (like when it was uploaded)
- Includes a call to the 'powerful action to subscribe
Here is a template which you can use to write yours Channel Deion:
Pro tip : Add a handful of keywords in your deion.can help your channel rank higher in YouTube search.
For example, I used different relevant keywords that people would search for on YouTube…
… Like "SEO", "building" and "content marketing".
8. Funnel people to " subscriber magnets "
This is working fine for me right now.
Here's the step-by-step process:
First, head over to the old YouTube Analytics report.
And click on "Subscribers " → "YouTube Playback Page ".
Next, identify the video that brought you the most subscribers last month:
(This video is your "Subscriber Magnet ")
In my case, this ONE Subscriber Magnet in my channel attracts as many subscribers as 13 other videos in my channel… combined .
Why is this important?
Your Subscriber Magnet video is PROVEN to generate subscribers.
And if you can get these videos in front of other people, you will get more subscribers
Here is3 Ways To Get More Eyeballs On Your Subscriber Magnet.
First of all, present this video in your end screen.
Next, create a playlist that starts with this video:
Finally, promote this video in a card :
You can even make your Subscriber Magnet the trailer for your channel.
For example, Evan Carmichael uses his popular Steve Jobs video as a trailer for his channel:
In this way, Evan 's high converting video is finds himself in front of everyone who visits his channel page
9. Use an awesome channel icon
Your The channel icon is displayed EVERYWHERE on YouTube .
Your icon is as a custom thumbnail… for your entire channel.
This is why it is very important to use the correct one .
So if you are a personal brand, use a high resolution headshot:
If you're a corporate channel, use a version of your logo designed for YouTube.
For example, ESPN rounded their logo so that 'it works perfectly as a string icon:
10. Create a channel slogan
Let's face it:
Most YouTube channels don't do anything to stand out.
And hey, I don't judge.
At the beginning of my channel, I completely ignored the positioning of my string .
And that was one of the main reasons forwhich I struggled with.
Once I started to strategically position my channel , my monthly views and total number of subscribers increased like a rocket.
Fortunately, you don 't need an MBA to position and mark your channel.
In fact, all you need to do is create a simple tagline.
Here is the 3 step process:
First, identify ONE thing that makes your chain unique or different.
Maybe you are a busy mom who can lift 500 pounds.
Maybe your chain teaches SaaS companies how to develop a blog.
The exact "trick " doesn't matter.
As long as it's different from other channels in your niche , you're good to go.
My videos teach people about marketing strategies that 'they can use to develop their ebusiness.
But if I havei made my slogan "I teach marketing strategies " or "I help you grow your business ", I would blend in with thousands d 'other channels on YouTube.
So I decided to focus on the one thing my channel focuses on:
Higher rankings and more traffic.
Second, put this slogan in large print on your Channel Art .
Here is mine:
Finally , say your tagline in your Channel trailer .
11. Heart Awesome Comments
There sometime YouTube has launched "Creator Hearts " .
Creator Hearts makes it easy to highlight awesome comments from your community:
Now let's go to the interesting part…
When you listen to a comment, that person gets a notification (and sometimes even an email):
And according to the own data :
Heart notifications get 300% more clicks than average.
So whenever someone leaves a solid comment, connect them with a heart:
As you just saw, this will bring them back to your video… and make them VERY likely to be 'subscribe.
12. Create a Killer Channel Trailer
You probably know that a tape -Channel Announcement can help you get more YouTube subscribers.
Here are 3 tactics to create a channel trailer that converts:
Start with your slogan
Beginz your trailer with your channel's slogan.
(Don't have a tagline. Check out technique # 10 from this post)
For example, I say my tagline ( "Higher rankings and more traffic ") in the first 3 seconds of my trailer:
YouTube themselves say that shorter trailers convert better :
This is why I made my trailer of about a minute:
Show off your best content
Your trailer is a BIG opportunity to promote your best content.
This way viewers can quickly get an idea of what kind of content I'm posting.
13. Create videos that override watchtime
Yeah, Watch time is an extremely important ranking factor for YouTube SEO.
And not just for YouTube SEO .
Videos with longer watch times are more often promoted on the YouTube homepage:
And in the sidebar Suggested video:
That 's why YouTube declares that:
The question is:
How to maximize viewing time?
Use lots of model interrupts. PI
An event that changes a person 's thought patterns .
Pattern interrupts make your videos more dynamic…
… which keeps people watching.
This is why I use TONS of pattern breaks in every video.
And cheesy jokes:
Pattern interrupts don't have to be complicated or complicated.
For example, check out this video from Safiya Nygaard:
Safiya uses a lot of super simple pattern interrupts (like camera angle changes and simple graphics) to keep things fresh.
14. Embed YouTube videos in blog posts
Your blog is a HUGE untapped source of views and subscribers.
Well, if someone is reading your textual content, they clearly like your content .
Which means they donot ready to subscribe.
This is why I embed so many videos in my blog posts.
Sometimes the video is an entire step or tip:
But I also embed videos to allow internet users to know more about something from the post:
Anyway, these integrations put my videos in front of more people.
And not just random people.
I show my video content to people who are SUPER likely to subscribe to my channel.
15. End videos with a powerful call to action
When someone comes to the end of your video, they think:
And unless you give it something to do, they'll click on another video from another channel.
What is the solution? Tell them to subscribe to your channel.
And don 't be afraid to sayre people exactly what to do.
For example, this is how I end all my videos:
I literally tell people to click on the inion button below the video.
That way there is no guesswork or thinking
And that 's one of the main reasons why so many people subscribe right after watching one of my videos:
16. Promote your channel in ebooks, webinars, presentations and Lead Magnets
The next time you create ANY piece of content, ask yourself next question:
"How do I direct people from this content to my channel?"
For example, I included a link to my channel in each main magnet:
I even promote my channel in podcast interviews:
17. Optimize your page channel
When a user accesses your channel page, two things can happen:
- He leaves right away
- He watches more of your videos and subscribes
And I can tell you from experience that an optimized channel page can double the number of subscribers by 2.
For example, my channel looked bland and unprofessional:
Needless to say that VERY few people who landed on my page have decided to subscribe.
This is where I decided to put some time and effort into my channel page.
Specifically, I hired a professional designer to design new string artwork:
And I've organized my videos so that my best content appears at the top:
There is no "perfect" way to organize your channel page.
But here's a template that I notice a lot of top YouTubers use:
Bonus # 1: "Social media preview "
I used to share my videos on social networks like this:
And my messages were buried.
Because Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networking sites want to keep people on their platform.
Which means they don 't like posts that send people to YouTube.
Well, I recently discovered a way around this problem:
"The Social Media Preview ".
And this simple strategy helped me get INSANE views on social media:
Actually one of my recent previews social media network got over 31,076 views on LinkedIn:
Here's how to do it:
First, type a 30-90 second snippet a recent YouTube video.
This clip must be a single technique, idea, or point.
Then download this clip as native video content.
This is the key.
As I mentioned before, social networks (like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit) want to promote native content on their platform.
And there is data for the sauwatch.
Native Facebook video posts get 10 times more views than YouTube related posts.
Finally, include a link to your video as the first comment on the post.
This way , if anyone wants to see more, they can easily watch the full video on YouTube.
And you are ready.
Bonus # 2: include a subion link in your channel illustration
C is one of my favorite ways to get YouTube subscribers.
You probably know that you can link to external sites in your channel artwork.
But what you might not know is that you can insert an additional subscribe button there.
Here is an example:
All you have to do is link to 'YouTube subion:
Then add this link as one of your illustration linksstring:
Make sure yous to give your link a convincing title:
And when someone clicks on this link, they will see this high convert prompt:
Now it's your turn
So I hope this article has you helped show you how to get more subscribers on YouTube.
And now I would love to hear from you:
