The "Voyagers " crew. Vlad Cioplea
The movie " releases this weekend. The new film is a sci-fi thriller set in space as a group of teenagers leave a dying planet and embark on an interstellar mission to perpetuate the human race on another habitable planet.ority of the film is actually set on the spacecraft, which has advantages and disadvantages from a directing and production standpoint. The environment also posed unique challenges that required advanced cameras and lighting to capture effectively.
I don't want to say anything about the film. Basically the Earth is dying and they need to find another planet. The one they find will take a long time to arrive - long enough that the original crew won't survive to see the New World. Children will be born during the mission and it will in fact be the grandchildren of the original crew who will eventually emerge on the new planet. Conflict and chaos ensue as the teens of the original crew grapple with their hormones and how to cooperate and coexist.
They sum up better than me and make it much more convincing in the synopsisOfficial Film:
"With the future of the human race at stake, a group of young men and women, bred for intelligence and obedience, set out on an expedition to colonize a distant planet. But when they uncover disturbing secrets about the mission, they challenge their training and begin to explore their most primitive natures. . As life on the ship crumbles into chaos, they are consumed by fear, lust, and an insatiable thirst for power. Written and directed by Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist), the film stars Tye Sheridan (The X-Men franchise), Lily-Rose Depp (The King), Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk), Chante Adams (Roxanne, Roxanne) , Isaac Hempstead Wright ("Game of Thrones"), Viveik Kalra (Blinded by Light), Archie Madekwe (Midsommar), Quintessa Swindell ("Trinkets"), Madison Hu ("Bizaardvark") and Colin Farrell (The Gentlemen). I had the opportunity to speak with Neil Burger - screenwriter and director of “Voyagers” - from the filming of the film As most of the film takes place in the ship, the effects areSpecials are relatively light for a space-based sci-fi thriller. Aside from some time on Earth before they launch and a spacewalk scene to do a repair on the ship, pretty much everything else happens in the spaceship's rooms and halls. The overall feel is very clean and sterile, as if the movie is set in a lab or a hospital.
On the one hand, the limited space and homogeneous nature of the spacecraft simplifies things in terms of scenography and overall production. At the same time, the narrow hallways and the bright white surroundings are difficult to film. This is where technology comes in to save the day.
The crew made extensive use of LED lighting - giving them a simple, centralized system to manage brightness as needed. They also used Sony VENICE cameras to allow them to capture scenes incramped spaces like spaceship hallways and crawl spaces.
Movies in the era of COVID-19
As more and more more people are vaccinated and states are returning to some semblance of normalcy - some faster than they probably should be - one of the industries keen to move beyond COVID-19 and getting back to business as usual are the movies. There have been persistent attempts to stream movies directly or to make a hybrid version of cinema viewing and streaming availability. warner brothers is making its box offices available simultaneously on hbo max at no additional cost, while disney is experimenting with hybrid versions which require a subion + additional supplement. the jury is still this best model - more lucrative -, but recent release two public rooms max.
