The new Focus feature in iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey gives you the tools to decide who and what can interrupt you during different activities or times of the day. Here is why it is better than theold "Do not disturb" feature.
"Do not disturb" is now part of the focus
From From iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey, the Do Not Disturb Mode you know and love is now part of the Focus feature, and that's not a bad thing. When you open the Control Center , you will find a big Focus button where the Do Not Disturb button was.
Even with Focus, you can continue to use the Do Not Disturb button as before , for example by activating it for an hour, or only for the day.
The Focus function also contains other presets (or modes) such as Work, Personal, etc. You can add more presets like Fitness, Gaming or create your own custom mode.
You can create your own Focus mode
The Focus feature allows you to dictate who and what to get your attention. In any Focus mode, you can decide which specific apps or contacts are allowed to you This functionality was sorely lacking at Do not disturb .
You can do this when setting up a new Focus (Apple has created a nice step by step process where you can add whitelisted apps and contacts), or later using the Settings app (there's a brand new Focus section in Settings).

Focus mode can display screens of 'personalized welcome
On iPhone and iPad, you can decide which Home screens to display when a particular Focus mode is triggered. You can choose to hide certain pages from the screen welcoming when you are working or relaxing.
Synchronization of focus modes between all your devices
By default, your Focus modes will synchronize between all your Apple devices (as long as they are logged into the same account). This means that a Focus mode which is set on the iPhone will be activated automatically on the Mac and the iPad when it has set the time.
This can be a cool feature. to help you work better. If you don't like it, you can also turn off the sync feature.
Focus modes can be automated
The work Apple has done to integrate Automation of shortcuts in the operating system is starting to show up positively. Shortcut's automation system is integrated directly into the Focus function. For each Focus, you canz create multiple schedules based on time, location and application. For example, you can activate Focus mode for a few hours in the morning and afternoon.
Some focus modes, like Gaming or Fitness, are triggered automatically when you launch a game or start a workout. And of course, if you create a custom Focus mode, you can create your own multiple automations based on time, location, and applications.
Focus mode will be available with the public version of 'iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 in fall 2021. Wondering if your iPhone or iPad will support this version? We have what you need with a list of all supported devices .
