It can be difficult to find a video editing app that has everything you need in one place. If you want to apply effectss, filters, and stickers, you may need to do this in one app, and then use another to trim your video and add music. And if you want to assemble several videos with blank canvases and photos? You already have three separate apps, which could mean three premium subions to avoid ads and watermarks. The InShot application solves this problem.
InShot is a touch-up application mobile photo and video for iOS and Android which is rich in features and gives you access to all kinds of editing and enhancement options. Almost everything you want to do for a video can be done in this one app, and there are all the different payment options so you can invest as much or as little as you want.
One drawback of the InShot application is that there aren't a lot of tips for using it. In this article we will go over each feature and option for the editing photos and videos - there are a lot of crossovers, and since you can add photos to your videos, both aspects of the app need to be covered. At the end, we’ll also quickly cover the collage function .
Note that the screenshots for this article are from an iPhone.
Get started with the InShot app
L The interface of the InShot application is minimalist at startup and the options are obvious.
Adding a photo
By clicking on the Photo option on the main screen, you can download an image from your device. After downloading a photo, you can leave it in the default 1: 1 orientation - which can be blurry on each side - or you can click the arrows directly below the image on the left to enlarge it to fill the space.
Adding a video
You cancan only import a video into the InShot application; you can 'In fact, you cannot shoot video using the app. Once you have selected the video on your device, you can trim it before importing it completely by clicking on the scissor icon, which will take you to this page:
If you don't want to cut it right now clickz on the green and white tick in the lower right. Here is the page to which you will be taken:
If you scroll down In the "Select a track to edit at the bottom" section, you can choose the part of the video you want to edit. If you skipped trimming as the first step, you can also trim the video here. Click on the video slider at the bottom to display the uncover optionpage (see screenshot below). By pressing again, you will be able to zoom in on the timeline, which means that you can include additional images for editing.
The plus sign at the bottom left allows you to add a blank section, photo or other video. You may want to add a blank section to a video to create a natural pause or add somethinghose as a sticker or text to an otherwise blank canvas. Anything you add will be added to your original download, and you can move the edit cursor to these new sections. Long press to swap the order of your sections and rearrange your video.
Photo and video editing features in the InShot application
The row of editing options at the bottom opens additional options and menus. There are undo and redo arrows, as well as a play button so you can run your video to see if you like the changes you've made.
There are a ton of editing options here. Many are the same for photo and video, but some have distinct differences. Let's see them.
The order of the editing options differs slightly in the photo and video sections. For this article, we've presented them in a way that makes sense, but they don't necessarily follow the same order as the menus built into the app.
Video manipulation: precut, duplicate, speed up and delete
In the precut menu, you can cut, cut or split your video. There is also a separate menu option which you can click to pause the video depending on where you are inthe video slider at the bottom. When you create a split, you can then tap a transition icon in the cursor to bring up a menu of different transitions to apply.
The Duplicate option allows you to duplicate sections of the video. Speed menu allows you to slow down or speed up the video. There is also a Delete option which allows you to delete sections of the video depending on where you are in the cursor.
The Canvas option gives you more orientation options, including those specifically for Facebook and Twitter. You can also zoom in or change the background. background options include different blur levels, colors, gradients, and patterns.
Crop, do rotate, freeze and reverse
In the Crop menu, you can either crop your image or video manually, or choose from common orientations. In the Rotate menu, you can rotate or flip the image or video. There’s alsooptions to change the angle or zoom. With videos, you can freeze or reverse a section.
The Filter category offers several filters. You can also click More at the end to purchase additional filter packs for $ 1.99.
There is also another way to get more filters. Scroll to the end of the list of filters, then click on the wheel icon. by default, the BASIC2 filter set will be deactivated. Click on the eye icon to activate it. When you return to your filter list, you will notice that several new ones have been added.
From the Filter menu, you can click Adjust, or you can go back to the main editing menu and choose Adjust from there. The Adjust menu has the different types of photo editing you probably know, such as contrast, heat, saturation, grain, etc. There is also an option called Curves, which appears to put white, red, green or blue hues in different areas of the photos depending on how you play with the dots along each color in the graph.
It is the only option which requires you to use another application. When you click on Retoucher, you will be directed to a page promoting the Peachy application, which allows you to use the editing features in the InShot application.
The next editing option is Effects. There are five effect categories, and each category has a number of effects from which to choose. You’ll first apply an effect to a section of your video. However, you can then use the slider at the bottom to drag the effect to the left or right to automatically apply it to additional sections. In the example below, I used a Glitch effect on the first section, then expanded the slider to include more video.
In the Glitch category, you can do things like make the image or video appear to have a glitch, add noise or give it an old-fashioned snowy TV look.
The Beats category is used to add movement, and is not available for photos. You can make your video do things like flash and pulse.
Distortion does things like flipping or reflecting your content; give it a fisheye, swirling or wavy effect; or give it the appearance of an analysis that went wrong, as in the exampleple below.
Style includes a few different mosaic and blur effects, and it also lets you transform your content into one of three types of sketches. The example below has the Comic effect.
With Celebrate, you can put a neon or flash overlay on your mount or add things like bubbles, snow or fireworks. In the example below, I have the interstellar effect on, which added these fine lines of light.
There are all kinds of stickers and effects that you can add to photos or that will synchronize with your video. Some sticker packs are free as long as you watch an ad, while others cost between 99 cents and $ 2.99. Click the shopping cart icon to visit the store.
The icons at the bottom allow you to filter different packs of stickers and effects according to the following categories:
- Facesmiling, which seems to be mainly illustrations
- Text and fonts
The other icons represent sticker themes. You can also use an image from your device or import your own stickers.
In the Text section, you can add text and change the color or font. You can also import fonts or buy new ones. (Note that these are the same options as when you choose the Text option from the Stickers menu.) You can also manage the fonts you make and don't see.
When editing a video, there are a few additional text options. Once the text is added, options You will see color and font options, like a photo, but a new three-dot effect icon opens up more. There are all kinds of text animations here, including:
- Melt the text.
- Expand or shrink the text.
- Move it left, right, up or down.
- Bounce, tilt, flip, rotate, rotate, flip, or pulse text.
There are many options for adding music or sound to your video:
- Add or import sound effects .
- Choose from their featured music.
- Connect to iTunes.
- Extract audio from a video.
- Import your own music.
- Record your own audio.
There is also a shopping cart icon that allows you to search for a track in iTunes and then use it in your video.
In the Volume menu, you can change the volume for different sections of the video. You can also extract the audio.
At the end of the list is Settings, which has only two options. You can set the video resolution to 720p or 1080p. You canAlso turn on or off the option to make improvements like stickers or sticky text on your videos.
The photo collage section is very easy to use. You choose your photos on your device and select the layout and . If you click on an individual image, you can make basic changes, but you cannot edit the photos here. You must make sure that the photos you add to the collage are already modified to your liking. However, you can apply many of the same editing functions to the entire collage, if desired.
Price of the InShot application
The InShot application is free to download, and you can do a lot in the application without paying anything. However, if you like the app and plan to use it a lot, you will probably want to upgrade at some point.given away, or at least spend some money on the upgrade packs that you will use over and over again.
InShot Pro is the premium version of the app, and it has no limits on the effects, filters, stickers, and transitions you can use. In addition, you will not see the InShot watermark on your creations, nor are there any ads to process. Pro has three price points: $ 3.99 per month; $ 14.99 per year, which includes a three-day trial; or a one-time fee of $ 34.99 for lifetime access.
If you don't want to spend that much or pay every month, you can spend just $ 2.99 to remove the ads and watermarks.ks. However, you will not have access to all the functionality of the tool as you do with Pro.
Advantages and disadvantages of the InShot application
Overall, InShot is a powerful photo and video editing application with so many featuresHowever, you will not need to use any applications other than those to actually film the content that you are going to modify. However, it is not perfect, and it has its drawbacks. Here are the main advantages and disadvantages of InShot.
Advantages of the InShot application
Accessible menus: Many menus include submenus and repeat options, which is smart because there are often several scenarios in which you want to access a specific menu. For example, you may want to access the font menu at different stages of the change.
Affordable cost: InShot is completely economical, even if you opt for the one-time purchase of $ 34.99 (which will be worth it if you are going to use InShot as a video editor reference).
InShot App Cons
Limited photo editing: Compared to other ph editing appsoto more professional (VSCO comes to mind), InShot may not stack. However, if you're going to use your photos in your videos or collages, it's nice to have so many editing features in one application.
Confused video manipulation: It can be a bit difficult to know which frame or section of video you are in the cursor at, which is painful when you want to do something like duplicating or deleting something.
No sticker search: There are lots of stickers to choose from, and the topic categories are not immediately obvious - in addition, the icons are lowercase. It would be much easier to find what you are looking for if there was a search function.
Lack of support: There is no indication on how to use InShot, and it is not an intuitive application - it doesn’t 's no tour guide when you use it for the first time or something like that. That said, if you've ever used photo or video editing apps, you can probably find out after spending some time there.
Final thoughts on the InShot application
InShot has a lot of photo and video editing features in one. There is a learning curve, but once you master the use of InShot, you can create anything from basic videos to professional videos. Since you can combine your photo and video content, apply effects and enhancements to specific sections, and add transitions where you want, you have a ton of control over the result - it looks like there isn’t not a very small section of your video that you cannot handle. You can't beat the price either. You don't know what to do with these videos after youyou created them? We have.
