E-commerce provider Shopify has shut down online stores for President Trump and his campaign, citing its role in inciting popular violence to 'yesterday on the U.S. Capitol.
Trumpstore.com and Shop.donaldjtrump.com, previously sold Trump-themed merchandise, including “Make America Great Again” hats. But gameSun morning, the backend store provider, Shopify, removed the listing, according to at The Wall Street Journal.
"Shopify does not condone actions that incite violence," the company told PCMag. “Based on recent events, we have determined that President Donald J. Trump's actions violate our Acceptable Use the policy , which prohibits the promotion or support of organizations, platforms or people who threaten or condone violence to advance a cause. As a result, we have closed stores affiliated with President Trump.
The shutdown effectively bars Trump from using Shopify again to power his e-commerce operations. The company told PCMag that when a merchant violates the usage policy acceptable from Shopify, it is never allowed to return.
Facebook also suspended Trump from using the social network. and Instagram "indefinitely ", but at least until he is removed from his post on January 20. "We believe the risks of allowing the president to continue using our service during this time are just too great " Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a Thursday message .
Twitter is also locked to Trump's Twitter account. However, the company appears ready to restore access after a 12-hour delay, provided Trump deletes three specific tweets.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond toa request for comment on Shopify. But it is likely that the president's team will seek alternatives or create their own e-commerce system to resume the sale of Trump merchandise.
