Wastewater refers to any water that is not clean or of poor quality. is altered by human activities. Wastewater comes from a combination of domestic, industrial, commercial or agricultural activities.
Wastewater treatment or management refers to the processes used to convert wastewater into effluent that can either be returned to the water cycle. 'water with negligible environmental impact, either reused.
The main purpose of wastewater treatment is usually to allow the disposal of human effluents and industrial without danger to human health or unacceptable damage to the natural environment.
Wastewater treatment process
Phase separation - It transfers impurities in a non-aqueous phase.
Sedimentation - Sedimentation is a physical treatment processe water using gravity to remove suspended solids from the water. Solid particles entrained by the turbulence of moving water can be removed naturally by sedimentation in the still water of lakes and oceans.
Filtration - The suspension of fine solids can be removed by filtration through physical barriers such as screens or coarser sieves.
Oxidation - This process decreases the biochemical oxygen demand of wastewater and can reduce the toxicity of certain impurities. Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP) are a set of chemical wastewater treatments believed to remove organic and inorganic material from wastewater through oxidation by reaction with hydroxyl radicals.
Chemical oxidation can remove some persistent organic pollutants and some concentrations remaining after biochemical oxidation.
