While a new Apple TV may be on the horizon, the current line of Apple TV is worth the investment for fans and users alike. 'Apple. And once you get the new box configuration, there are a few things you need to learn. For example, moving around in the Siri Remote might seem simplistic, but there are some hidden shortcuts that will surely make your life easier.

You can even use your AirPods or HomePods with Apple TV to listen to your favorite show or movie. Below are 11 tips and tricks to get the most out of your Apple TV.
Useful gestures and tips for the Siri remote
The Apple TV remote is in desperate need of 'a redesign. It's small, easily lost, and the trackpad that you use to press and slide your way around the Apple TV interface can be frustrating. But, this is what you are stuck with. So in an effort to make the most of the situation, here are some of the gestures and tips we have learned in our time using the Siri Remote.
Of course, you can use the power of Siri by pressing and holding the Siri button (the one with the microphone icon on it) and saying a command. You can say things like: "Go forward 10 minutes, " "Give me new shows on Netflix " or "Who made this? " The list in the Siri commands for Apple TV is very extensive.
Yet the real beauty of the Siri remote is in all of the keyboard shortcut functionser hidden.
- Long press on the Home button (the one with the TV icon on it) br a drop-down menu in which you can put the TV to standby, switch user account, view your HomeKit devices and camera feeds, as well as access AirPlay devices (more on that in a minute).
- Pressing Play / Pause while typing acts as a Shift key.
- A double click of the Menu button on the home screen will launch the screen saver.
- Long press on the touchpad to activate jiggle mode to rearrange or delete apps.
- Double-tap the Home button to open the application switcher, which you can then browse through all open applications and even close them forcibly if you have any problems.

Ditch the remote that came with your TV
The Siri Remote can almost completely replace your TV remote (at least when using Apple TV). It is usually activated automatically, but if your Siri Remote does not not control your TV volume, go to Settings> Remotes and devices and make sure Control TVs and receivers is set to On . If the volume control still does not work, click Volume control , then click Auto .
Apple TV can also almost turn the TV on and off, but it depends on the TV itself. You will need activate CEC , which has more than a dozen names different depending on the brand of your TV.
Once activated, when you press a button on the Siri remote, your TV should turn on. And when you put Apple TV to sleep, your TV should also turn off.

Use your AirPods with your Apple TV
The next time you want to binge on your favorite The New Series late at night without disturbing your partner, connect your AirPods to your Apple TV. Your AirPods should already be paired with the streaming box, so just put your AirPods on, then long press the TV button, select the AirPlay icon, then scroll down and click on your AirPods.
All sound will flow from Apple TV directly to your ears, allowing everyone around you to sleep while you watch another episode.

If you have full-sized HomePods, you can use the smart speakers to create a home theater audio system, or if you only have a HomePod Mini, you can stream audio from your Apple TV through the speaker for enhanced sound.
There are several ways to get the home theater feature to work, but here's the gist: you will need an Apple TV 4K, one or two of the larger HomePod model.
Make sure HomePod and Apple TV are in the same room in the Home app on your iPhone or iPad. If you want to use two HomePod speakers as a stereo pair, you will need to create this pair beforet assign them to the same room as your TV.
The next time you turn on your Apple TV, you'll be asked if you want to use HomePod as your TV speakers. If you are not prompted, open the Settings app on your Apple TV, navigate to Video and Audio > Default Audio Out and select the enclosure you want to use.

Pair Bluetooth devices
If you don 't have AirPods but a pair of Bluetooth headphones, you are no slouch.Whether playing casual games with a controller or watching a TV show without disturbing others late at night, Bluetooth is your best friend.
While you can play simple games with the Siri remote, Apple TV is compatible with MFi (Made for iPhone) controllers as well as a picklist of Xbox and PlayStation controllers . To pair a controller, turn it on and put it into pairing mode. Next, on Apple TV, go to Settings> Remotes & Devices> Bluetooth . Find the controller that appears under Other devices and click on it. Now when you turn it on, it will automatically connect to Apple TV.
The same goes for bluetooth headphones, which are especially useful for late watching the sEven if you don't want the sound of the TV to keep everyone in the house. And you can replace the Siri remote with a Bluetooth keyboard, if you want. Simply put the device into pairing mode and then visit the Bluetooth section of Apple TV settings to complete the pairing process.

Force a restart
Although Apple TV works almost perfectly most of the time , things can go wrong from time to time. Applications may freeze or stop working. We have already covered five common Apple TV problems (And how to fix them), but your best friend will almost certainly be the forced restart option. There are two ways to do this:
- Go to Settings> System and click Restart ^.
- Or press and hold the Menu and TV buttons until the light on the front of the Apple TV starts blinking rapidly. Release the buttons and Apple TV will restart.
Use your iOS device as a remote
Speaking of replacing the Siri remote, if you lose it or break it there, replacing it is a cool $ 59 .
But you can avoid replacing it completely. The Apple TV remote app is built into your iPhone or iPad, and if you use your own profile to stream and streamWhile watching shows, you will notice that your lock screen automatically displays the controls. You have pretty much all the functions of the Siri remote, including volume control.
It also comes with the convenient option that allows you to type searches and other text entries using your iOS device's on-screen keyboard, at the instead of having to hunt and peck with the onscreen Apple TV keyboard. Control your smart home devices
If you have smart home devices that work with HomeKit annotation, your Apple TV will act as a hub for them, and you can use the Siri Remote to control your home.
Setup is a cinch: just connect your HomeKit devices to the Home app on your iOS device and make sure the Apple TV is signed into the same iCloud account as you use on your phone. To make sure it is configured correctly, go to Settings> AirPlay and HomeKit and verify that it is connected as a hub . Otherwise, verify the user account by going to Settings> Users and Accounts> click on your account name, then select iCloud to see which email address it is using.
As long as this is all working, you should be able to press the Siri button on the remote and tell it to turn your lights on or off, or unlock a door, depending on the type of Devices HomeKit that you have around your sharpened.
The real beauty of HomeKit working with Apple TV is that your Apple TV will function as a remote hub, so you can control your home while you are away.
If you have HomeKit compatible cameras, you can watch live streams or receive alerts when someone rings your doorbell, for example, right on your TV. Long press the TV button, highlight and click the HomeKit icon to take control of your skin.

Enjoy the TV application
Apple TV app has become the centraliz hub ed for whatever you watch or want to watch. When you open an app such as Discovery Go, you will be asked if you want to allow the TV app to access the app. This will allow it to track the shows you are watching and place new episodes in front of all other items in the Next . The TV app is also where youwill buy new TV shows or movies and where you can find all of your previously purchased items.
Perhaps more importantly for some, this is also where you will find all the Apple TV Plus shows and movies that Apple has released.
It's easy to gloss over the TV app, but if you take the time to log into your TV provider and include all the streaming apps you use, it will become a useful tool that will reduce the time you spend clicking to pick up where you left off or find something new to watch.
Automatically install apps
If you download a new app on your iPhone, it can be automatically installed on your iPad. The same can be enabled with your Apple TV - assuming there is an Apple TV app for something you have in mind.stall.
To activate it, go to Settings> Applications and click on Automatically install applications to activate it.

Quickly Remove Apps
You might find yourself installing an app with your new Apple TV. Or you might have automatically downloaded a bunch of apps you installed on your phone that you never use on your Apple TV.
If you need to quickly free up storage space on your Apple TV, you can switchReviewing and deleting each app individually from the home screen, which is extremely slow and tedious. You can also go to Settings> General> Manage Storage to find a list of installed apps, sorted from largest to smallest. There you can click on the trash can icon next to each app you want to remove and click Delete to confirm.
