Small and simple
The Mini Pro is a small rectangular camera designed for indoor use. It has a white housing with a black camera face, measures 1.6 x 2.3 x 1.1 inches (HWD) and is supported by a folding stand that allows for both forward and backward tilt. , but no swivel adjustments. It comes with a mounting disk and screws that allow you to attach it to a wall.
The camera captures 1080p video at 25 fps and has a 130 degree field of view. It uses an infrared LED to provide up to 26 feet of black and white night vision, and has a microphone and speaker for two-way sound. A built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radio connects the camera to your home network and allows it to be controlled from your phone using a mobile app. It also allows you to access video streams atusing Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. However, it does not work with Apple HomeKit, nor does it support IFTTT integrations which allow it to integrate with smart home devices such as locks and plugs.
The camera records the video and sends push alerts when it detects motion, but it doesn't offer sound detection or local storage options like the Wyze Cam V3 and the Lorex 1080p Full HD Smart Indoor Wi-Fi Pan-Tilt W261AQC-E . You get free access to the last 12 hours of video history, which is stored in the cloud, but if you need a longer history you will need topay $ 4.99 per month or $ 49.90 per year for 7 days of continuous storage (per camera) or $ 9.99 per month / $ 99.90 per year for 30 days of storage. You also need the subion to take advantage of some features, including smart motion alerts, motion detection zones, time-lapse video, and an in-app video editor.

L Zmodo mobile app (for Android and iOS) opens on a home screen with a plus icon in the top right corner for adding new devices. Underneath is a notification panel with on and off buttons for turning the camera on and off, notifications, and sharing. Here you can create custom buttons to modify the behavior of the camera. By eExample, you can create a button to have the camera on, but notifications and sharing disabled.
Below the notification area are panels for all installed Zs. modo cameras that contain the camera name, current alert status, and Live and Play buttons. When you press the Live button, it opens a screen with a live feed that you can view in full screen mode by turning your phone sideways. At the bottom of the screen are the buttons for manual record, snapshot, two-way audio, speaker mute, and play. Tap the play button to view a scrolling timeline of the alert event video and use the video editing tool to create custom clips (tap the play button in the panel on the device to open the same screen).
To access the camera settings, press the icongearbox in the upper right corner of the Live screen. Here you can turn microphone on / off, reverse screen orientation, share camera and video with other users, subscribe to cloud service, and create motion detection zones.
Installs in minutes and delivers crisp video
I had the Zmodo Mini Pro up and running shortly after taking it out of the box. Downloaded the mobile app, created an account and tapped the plus icon in the upper right corner of the welcome screen. I selected the Scan QR code option, plugged in the camera and followed the voice instructions to connect the camera to my Wi-Fi network and enter my Wi-Fi password. When a QR code appeared on my phone, I held it 8 inches from the Mini Pro and I waited a few seconds for the camera to be recognized. I gave an nom to the camera, hit Next, and the installation was complete.
The Mini Pro delivered crisp 1080p video in testing. The color quality was very good and the black and white night vision was clear and sufficiently illuminated at about 25 feet. There was no obvious barrel or cushion distortion, and the two-way audio was clean and loud.
Smart motion detection and motion zones worked well, as did streaming video to a Amazon Echo Show using Alexa voice commands.
The-most affordable security camera, but not quite the best
If you want to monitor activity inside your home on a budget, the Zmodo Mini Pro isdefinitely attractive. For just $ 14, it offers crisp 1080p video and offers smart motion detection, 12 hours of free cloud storage, and voice control. That said, you need to subscribe to Zmodo's cloud service to take advantage of smart alerts and time-lapse video, and to access videos that are over 12 hours old. For $ 6 more, the Wyze Cam V3 is a much better deal: it can be used indoors or outdoors, offers color night vision and local storage, has a built-in siren, and works with a multitude of third party smart devices. As such, it remains the winner of our Editor's Choice for Affordable Security Cameras.
