whatever my content was missing
(mainly in the form of a giant beginner's guide).
So I have completely reworked my cont ent from scratch.
I turned this list of techniques into Conversion rate optimization: the definitive guide .
Now that my page matches search intent she now gets 214% more organic traffic than before.
Bottom Line? If you want to improve your Google ranking, your page must be perfectly suited to what someone is looking for.
When you do, Google WANT to show your site to more people. This is why giving Google what it wants is the foundation of all good SEO strategy .
Step 5: Reduce your bounce rate
Our next step is to improve Bounce rate .
Why is this important?
Well, Google hates seeing people landing on a site ... and quickly returning to search results. > width: 790px "class = " backo-image__ed-imagebacko-image__img-hub-round backo-image ">
Needless to say, aligning your content with Search Intent is a great way to improve your bounce rate.
After all, you give a user what they are looking for. Why would they bounce back?
Besides the search intent, you cando a handful of simple things to improve your site's bounce rate.
First, I recommend you look at the target " Above the fold ”.
This is the first thing people see when they arrive on your site.
And in my experience, people decide to bounce or not largely bounce off what they see here.
The # 1 thing you can do to improve your Folding area is to push your content to the top. That way Google searchers can easily find what they are looking for.
For example, you can see that my content is all in top of my page here.
You also want to structure your page so that Internet users can easily find what they are looking for.
For example, you may have noticed that I added a small table of contents at the top of this page.
This way people can go straight to the step that they want most interested.
Finally, add visualsls, videos, graphics, screenshots, selfies… or any form of visual content you can access your page.
It makes your content more engaging and easier to understand. Both can reduce your bounce rate a LOT.
For example, I add dozens of visuals to each post.
And that helps keep my bounce rate very low.
Step # 6: Find even-numbered keywords to target
At this point you should start to see your site better ranked in Google.
Now is the time to get even MORE traffic to your site.
And the easiest way to do it?
Optimize your page around several different keywords.
Here is the exact process.
First of all , go to the report "Performance on researches "from the Google search console.
Then parcoure the queries you rank for.
You rYou will probably know most of them because you have already optimized your web pages around these exact keywords.
But every once in a while and again you will come across a keyword that you are not optimizing for.
And if you rank for this term by accident, imagine how easy it will be to rank if you TRY to rank it.
For example, I get quite a bit of traffic from people looking for a "sample YouTube video deion ".
But I don 't have an optimized page around this exact keyword.
Instead, people who search for this keyword find this my sit e page.
This page INCLUDES a sample video deion.
But it's not really optimized around that term.
So I would like to come back to this page and add this exact sentence several times. And develop the example a bit.
I could also create a brand new page optimized around this keyword.
Both methods work.
Rinse and repeat this process several times.
Step 7:Post Incredible Quality Content
You've probably heard this to rank in Google "you need to post high quality content ".
And while this is true, it is also very difficult to act.
(After all, what does "high -quality content" actually mean?)
So yeah, you want to post awesome stuff on your site.
But it has to be the kind of high quality content that people share on social media… and link to.
Th at because, as you you might already know, Google's algorithm is largely based on backs .
The more backs your site has, the higher you will be ranked.
And the best way to create backs to your site ?
Publishcontent to which internet users will link.
(also called " bait ").
Here are some ways to increase the chances that people will link to your content.
Become a data source
In other words:
Post something that other people can quote in their blog content.
For example, earlier this year, we partnered with Pitchbox for this massive email awareness study .
This message was packed with data, statistics and numbers. What kind of thing bloggers and journalists LOVE to link to.
For example, one of our results is that less10% of all outreach emails are answered.
And bloggers and journalists quickly began to cite this statistic as proof that most outreach efforts fail.
Focus on long content
I talked a bit about longer content in step 1.
In fact, longer content is ALSO great for getting links .
While there is no "perfect" word count for blog posts, content over 3,000 words tends to be most efficient when it comes to link building .
Post visual content
I'm talking about things like:
Visual content is great for getting links .
For example, some time ago we published thisinfographic on our blog.
Yeah, we must have done a lotp awareness raising by e-mail to spread the word.
But when we got this infographic in front of the right people, they were happy to embed it on their blog.
Step # 8: Create backs to your site
Post amazing content is awesome and all .
But for your content to receive links people need to see it.
In other words:
You can't just take a 'publish and pray' approach to content marketing and HOPE people will link you.
It's because your content is a drop in a sea of blog posts, videos, Instagram stories, and Facebook posts that come out every day.
In fact, WordPress reports that 70 million new messages are publishedposted every month .
What to remember here isthat if you want people to link to your site, you need to actively promote your content.
This video will show you the 9 link building strategies that work best for me at the moment.
You probably don't need to use all 9s to link.
Instead, I recommend focusing on these 3 techniques:
Getting links via dead links
It 's also kno wn like " Broken Link Building ".
To use this strategy, first install the CheckMyLinks Chrome extension .
Next, scan a page you find for a dead link.
When you find one, send an email to the person running that page (usually the content author or webmaster of site) a personalized version of this e-mail:
Hello [First name] ,
J ' found a broken link on your page: [title] .
This is the link to [website] . It gives me a 404 error.
Additionally, I recently posted an article on [subject] . This could replace the broken link.
Hope this helps you!
Guest posting is a VERY controversial topic in the SEO world.
And for a good reason.
Posting a guest may be certainment be spam.
In fact, Google specifically states that large-scale campaigns that use "keyword rich " anchor text links are a no-no.
So as long as you don't a) invite the guest to post your link building strategy # 1 and b) use some keyword rich anchor text in your backs, you're good to go.
For example, here's a guest post I posted on SEMRush Blog .
This was posted on another site in my niche (optimization of search engine). So a big check mark.
And that was one of two guest posts that I posted that month. This is far from being "large scale" guest blogging.
Also, my link to my site did not contain any keywords.
So overall, this guest post would be considered A-OK in the eyes of Google.
Resource pages are great for linking.
This is because resource pages are pages that someone has created link to the best information on a given topic.
For example, I have a resource page designed to help people learn SEO fast .
And this page links to useful content on keyword research, content and more.
So if you had an outstanding resource on SEO, I might consider adding it to this page.
Step # 9: Track and monitor your results
So at this point , you should start to see your site rankingr higher on Google than before.
Which is awesome.
But how do you know if these rankings are doing something for you?
How do you keep tabs on your SEO results without manually checking your rankings every hour?
That's what this step is all about. In this step, I'll show you how to track your results like a pro.
Google Analytics "Organic Traffic "
Rankings are excellent and all. But when it comes to measuring the results of SEO Marketing , NOTHING beats organic traffic.
(In other words, traffic coming directly from search engines).
This is mainly because rankings can be misleading.
In fact, an industry study by Ahrefs found that the # 1 ranking on Google is not not all that it is supposed to be.
They found that Google's top ranking page doesn't always get the most traffic.
How is that possible?
First of all, organic CTR .
I'll talk a LOT more about this in the next step.
But in short, Google result # 2 sometimes gets more clicks than result # 1.
And if you can double your organic click-through rate, you've just doubled your traffic from that keyword.
Second, a single page can rank for THOUSANDS of different keywords.
Suppose you rank # 1 for the keyword A. And your competitor ranks # 2 for that same term.
But your competitor ranks # 1 for keywords B, C and D.
Because they rank for more keywords, they will probably get more Google traffic than you.
In short: tracking your Goo rankinggle in its place. But the golden standard of SEO tracking is organic traffic.
"Impressions " and "Clicks " from Google Search Console
This is a good addition to the Google Analytics organic traffic report we just discussed.
This report in Search Console basically shows you how many people have viewed your site. And how many of those people have CLICKED on your site.
As you might expect, more the more people see and click on your site from google, the better.
Leads and sales
In other words: does this influx of traffic actually add to the bottom line net?
This is a question people are ignoring. But if you want to get a huge ROI from SEO, you need to know if all of those new visitors are turning into customers.
There is a million and one ways to track this. MayMy favorite is the Goals Analytics feature.
In fact, this is what we are using here to see which pages are getting the most email subscribers for us.
Bonus step # 1: Increase your click-through rate
It's no secret that Google uses click-through rate in its algorithm.
In fact, several studies ( like this ) found a correlation between "expected CTR " and Google rankings.
In other words:
The higher your organic CTR, the higher you will generally rank.
C That's because a high CTR tells Google that your page is what people are looking for.
And they will increase your page ranking to make it easier for people to find it.
Here are some easy ways to get more clicks:
- Use emotional title tags: In other words, titles that stand out. Here is an example:
- Use short URLs and deives: They are useful for SEO in general. But they also help Google searches see your page as an ideal choice for their search.
- Rich Snippets: Rich Snippets (like the stars) really helps your site stand out in the SERPs.
- Convincing meta-deions: Your meta-deion should "sell " your page.
Bonus step 2: use the internal link
Want an easy way to improve your Google ranking?
Use internal link .
In other words:
Link from a page on your site TO another page on your site.
And unlike backs, you can use text from 'exact match anchor in your internal links .
For example, I'm currently short of the first page for the term "Google Search Console ".
And given the number of people who search this keyword every month, even go back up one location could make a huge difference to me.
So to increase the chances of this page ranking, I add an internal link to this page whenever I mention Google Search Console.
Rinse and repeat the operation for all your priority pages.
So I hope you enjoyed my step by step guide step to get better ranking in Google.
Now I would like to hear what you have to say:
Which techniques in this guide are you going to try first?
Are you going to start building internal links?
