Border Patrol officers rescued two young children abandoned along the Rio Grande River on Tuesday, including a 3 month old baby in a baby carrier - the latest instance of child abandonment at the south.
In a statement, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the 2-year-old girl and the 3-month-old boy, both of Honduran nationality, are brothers and sisters and were found abandoned along the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass.

They were only found when officers on the river noticed "an unusual color " on the shore and discovered the two children.
They found a note identifying their ages and nationalities, and no individuals were encountered while searching the area. The children were brought to safety and transported to a nearby station for treatment. They did not require medical attention, CBP said.

This is of the latest case of small children being abandoned at the , often by smugglers, in the hope that they will be picked up by the patrol, processed in the United States and ultimately handed over to sponsors - usually parents or other family members - who are already in the United States
In June, Border Patrol posted a video of a 5 year old migrant girl wandering alone at the after being abandoned near the end of the wall.
Earlier in the month, a video appeared which allegedly showed a 5 year old boy shouting "don 't go! " after being abandoned along the US -mexican.
A source DHS told Fox News Wednesday that there were 18,847 encounters of unaccompanied children in August, down slightly from July.
