From feed posts to IGTV and Reels, knowing the best size and dimension for each Instagram post is no small feat.
In this handy guide, you will find all the dimensions you need to create perfectly sized images and videos for Instagram.
When sharing photos and videos on Instagram, there are two main things to keep in mind: aspect ratio and size.
The aspect ratio refersnce to the width of an image relative to its height. It is expressed as a ratio, such as 4: 5 or 9:16, where the first number represents width and the second number represents height.
It is important to make sure that your photos and videos respect Instagram's aspect ratio guidelines, otherwise they'll be cropped to fit a supported ratio - which could result in part of your image being lost.
Size (or resolution) refers to the number of pixels that make up the width and height of your photo or video. Like the aspect ratio, the size is expressed by two numbers, the first representing the width and the second representing the height. For example, an image size of 1080px x 1080px is much larger than a 50px x 50px size.
When you share a photo or video on Instagram, the image that gets displayed (both on the app and on the web) will usually be much smaller than the original as you uploaded.
So even if you upload a photo that is 1080px wide, the image that displays on Instagram will be compressed to a size smaller.
Does the size of the image on Instagram even matter?
It's true! Even though Instagram compresses your photos and videos, it is always best to share them in optimal resolution. This way when Instagram compresses your photo, it will not affects really the picture quality.
Note : You should always try to avoid posting photos with ultra-high resolution, like 5400px by 5400px. It could actually have a negative impact on the quality of your image.
