An Amazon Prime deal ensuring no free live coverage of the fall rugby internationals is a "retrograde step ", the S4C chief executive said. >
Last year, theWales matches have been shown live on Amazon Prime and S4C - this year fans have to pay Amazon to watch live , with highlights later on S4C.
"S4C doesn't host which has happened, "Owen Evans told the Senedd Culture Committee.
" This is a backward step for us in Wales. "
Amazon has been invited to comment.
S4C was in discussions with major Amazon Prime rights holders to show matches, in October and November, in Welsh, as in fall 2020.
However, it will only show highlights from the matches against New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji and Australia one hour after the final whistle.
"We in Wales could say that ' is one of the crown jewels, now people will have to pay to watch Wales play international matches this fall "Evans told members of Senedd.
"Sport attracts a lot of viewers for the channel - this is an opportunity for us to crossover on S4C content for an audience that often does not come into contact with this content.
"We make plug programs for children and for learners for people who co me to channel through sport.
He added: "S4C is not hailing what happened we hail that we have some highlights, maybe an hour, but we would rather have live sport.
