A £ 6.5bn pension fund will need toit be invested in more sustainable and net zero businesses, a board was told.
The recommendation was from the Essex Climate Action Commission, which advised Essex Count y Council on Climate Change.
The authority has accepted several commission proposals to move Essex to net zero by 2050.
The Commission President Jules Pretty said: are there any opportunities to show sustainable investment policies. "
He said the county council money Essex's local government pension scheme, one of the largest, could be put into "the green finance that was discussed at COP26 ".
The conservative head of the council , Kevin Bentley, said he needs to discuss the pension fund and that he will "speed up" the work to invest it in sustainable businesses.es.

According to the Local Democracy Report Service , the consulting firm accepted several commission recommendations , including that solar panels be installed on every available roof on domestic, industrial and commercial buildings by 2050.
All domestic gas boilers should also be replaced with carbon neutral alternatives , such as heat pumps, by 2040.
The commission said that by 2030, downtown and car congestion should be reduced by introducing cycling and walking routes dedicated and well planned in all urban and rural sites and to all stations, while modernizing and developing the national cycling network.
He also indicated that three new sites "Park & Choose (pedal, scoot, stride) "without subsidy should be introduced by 2030.
