The Netflix TV adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's Dark Horse comic book The Umbrella Academy is in its second season, et showrunner Steve Blackman has moved the story in surprising directions that don't exactly match the source of the comic book.
However, according to Blackman, Way and Ba will incorporate some of the new ideas that Blackman and his writing team has come up with into future Umbrella Academy comic book stories.
"It 's difficult. I don ' t adapt directly. The graphic novel served as a springboard and inspiration. I am good friends with Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba. I love talking to them and I am very collaborative with them, "Blackman indicates LRM Online . "In my effort, I launched them all season earlier this year. They are not involved on a day to day basis, but I wanted them to like where I am going. I wouldn 't like to be on the same page. "
" What makes the novelso awesome graphic is that it is not linear. It 's such amazing creative storytelling but wouldn ' t translate into a ten hour TV show. First, some of them that we just couldn't afford and other things that just couldn't work in a 10 hour story. So, I picked and picked the things I like, "Blackman continues, explaining part of the thought process of choosing which parts of the Umbrella Academy comic book to adapt directly.
"Then, I mentally had the freedom to contribute my ideas which do not exist in the graphic novel. It 's beautiful now that some of the things we do Gerard will write in history. These two supports now combine and coexist, which is wonderful. "
The latest Umbrella Academy volume, titled 'Hotel Oblivion ', was released in 2018 and2019. A fourth volume, titled 'Sparrow Academy ', has been announced, but with no planned release date.
"[ 'Sparrow Academy '] is about a very big reveal in the Umbrella Academy universe, something that has been a secret for a long time, and our brothers and sisters are learning from it a lot about what was going on behind the scenes, as well as discovering the true nature of some of the characters who have been with them from the start, "Way already told Forbes about the next story. "The series finally begins to answer the question: 'And the other babies born on this day, at this time? ' The U the brothers and sisters of the Umbrella Academy are no longer alone in the world. "
