Sales of graphic novels in the North American bookstore market increased 42% this quarter, according to the NPD Group market research company.
For the months of July to Septembermber 2020, 4 million printed graphic novels were reportedly sold in the North American bookstore market - up significantly from the 2.8 million printed graphic novels from April to June 2020. NPD reports that the sub - Manga category accounted for nearly three-quarters of growth in this most recent quarter.
According to NPD, the manga subcategory is 25% year-over-year while the superhero subcategory is down 11%. Over the past five years, manga has grown by 8%.

The other key engine for graphic novels 'Q3 2020 uptick would be Dog Man: Grime and Punishment from September 1 from Dav Pilkey, which sold 589,628 copies to be printed by the end of September.
