The Vice , Big Short and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy director assembled this player pickup boat to tell the story story of "two low-level astronomers embarking on a media tour to warn humanity of an approaching asteroid that will destroy Earth. " Lawrence was attached to the project earlier this year, with a few other names loosely related to the film, including Blanchett's. However, we now have a full roster for the Netflix movie, which would be filmed later this year.
The sticking point would have been DiCaprio. The elusive Oscar winner had to wonder if he could film McKay's project and his upcoming film starring Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon, which was due to be released by Apple. In the end, the actor found room for both movies streaming, with Scorsese's next pic filmed first.
Netflix is no doubt hoping Don 't Look Up has all the makings for an Oscar winner. The streamer hasn't Still landed the gong for best picture, but with a cast like the one that hasn't been seen since the 11 Ocean films, they certainly seem to be winners.
Before that, Netflix has yet to some Oscar hopes behind the scenes. This week, Aaron Sorkin 's streamer is starred The Trial of the Chicago 7 , followed by Ben Wheatley 's Rebecca , then Hillbilly Elegy - which is produced by Ron Howard, with Amy Adams and Glenn Close, and music by Hans Zimmer ...
