Halo: Shadows of Reach takes place between the events of Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite. It follows the Master Chief and the Blue Team Spartans reunited as they return to their homeworld of Reach, decades after the cataclysmic end of Halo: Reach (and Halo's first novel, Fall of Reach). The planet's surface has been turned into glass by the ceaseless Covenant bombardments, but the leader's mission nonetheless is to salvage materials that could help stop the rogue AI uprising.
If you are caught up by the events of the games, there will be no spoilers in the excerpt read by Steve Downes. This is mainly a recap of recent events in the series from the perspective ofMaster Chief, giving us a chance to hear the inner conflict he still feels about the role he played in Cortana's dictatorial turn.
