"[With the original games] we were trying to tell this story that revolved around, you know, strengthening these two heroes, who are fondamecompletely diametrically opposed. They don't agree on anything, but they're better together, ”says Smith.
"We really wanted to make sure we got a message on this - that these are, you know, tumultuous times and people need to have more empathy and see beyond the differences from each other to make sure we are strengthened together, isn't it? That's the general message of the franchise. "
" And with Rift Apart , we're trying to tell a story that involved seeing a different version of these characters, who never really became the heroes they could be. So we immediately started discussing this multi-dimensional duality. And then, of course we already had this device from the franchise that does what we need. "
Asked specifically about the idea that the canonically female Lombax has no tail, whereas this new Lombunnamed female ax has a tail, Smith only served to bolster the multiverse theory:
"I will say that in the dimension Ratchet hails from and we're used to, might well be a rule of Lombax's physiology. "
Get ready, the Ratchet and Clank multiverse is coming.
