But what is the methodology behind this frightening study, commissioned by Broadbandchoices for their Science of Scare project?
Simple: Make a list of the top 50 horror movies - across IMDb, Reddit and others - have a fight for willing contestants, hook them up to a heart monitor and off you go. Throw in the audience's average resting heart rate for each movie against their usual resting heart rate and you'll get the results once you determine the difference. was actually James Wan's Insidious which caused the biggest increase in heart rate, with one scene generating a beat of 133 beats per minute. Not for the faint hearted then, clearly.
