Sony has clarified a controversial pop-up that PS4 players see that warns them that their voice conversations could be recorded, explaining that the message does reference to a functionPS5 launch bed that will allow you to send recordings to moderators for review.
In response to PS4 gamers concerned that Sony might be recording their in-game chats, the company set updated the original Update 8.00 announcement with some additional information. Essentially, it looks like PS5 gamers will be able to record voice conversations with toxic, offensive or abusive players and send the evidence to Sony moderators in a report Here is Sony's full statement:
"Following this update, users see a notification regardinggroup security and that voice chats in groups can be Voice chat recording for moderation is a feature that will be available on PS5 when it launches, and will allow users to record their voice chats on PS5 and to submit them for moderation review. The pop-up you are seeing on PS4 right now is to notify you that when you join a chat with a PS5 user (after launch), they can submit those recordings from their PS5 console to SIE. "
Interestingly, this looks like The feature will not be available on PS4. This may be because the PS5 DualSense controller includes a built-in mic, while PS4's DualShock does not. Either way, Sony has confirmed in another statement on Twitter that it does not record voice conversations , so it sounds like this is a feature explicitly designed to allow PS5 players to report other players.
