If that doesn't sound like you, then Ring of Pain takes away the skill-based challenge and instead presents difficulty through the choices you make, meaning it's much more accessible to a wider range of players. As you can see in the strip- ad above, Ring of Pain features a striking art style that uses vivid colors on a fdark wave, creating an absolutely gorgeous aesthetic style. Since all movement is done automatically based on the choices you make, the lack of fast-paced gameplay means a visual style like this is no longer possible. It almost sounds art-esque concept, which makes sense when you consider that Simon Boxer - the solo developer who started the project - has been working on AAA titles as a concept artist for over 10 years.
Inspiration was taken from a number of other dungeon crawlers, including The Binding of Isaac, with the developer describing it as "like Isaac's turn-based affair in the darkest corner of your mind". At launch, Ring of Pain will have over 150 items and 50 creatures, each with different behaviors.unique ombat. There are also four distinct regions, 25 special rooms and "mysterious encounters" to discover.
Each game will last around 40m minutes to an hour - provided you are successful and do not succumb to the Ring of Pain, of course - which means it's a ideal game for playing in short bursts. There are a number of different endings as well, so you can explore the different narrative paths the game will take you. Even if you beat the game multiple times and complete all of the over 50 achievements on offer, there is a daily dungeon to woo you and add longevity to the game.
