Of these, director Edgar Wright and casting directors Allison Jones, Robin D. Cook and Jennifer Euston revealed to Vanity Fair some of the now famous actors who auditioned for roles but were ultimately unsuccessful.
The top of the bill must be Twilight, Tenet and The Batman star Robert Pattinson, who read for therole of Lucas Lee, a role that was to be taken over by a certain Chris Evans. Ultimately, Pattinson's approach during the audition was in a different direction than the one Evans took.
"He also made a much more intense reading of it," Wright recalls. “Obviously Robert is an amazing actor and someone I would love to work with now. But it was a very different take on what Chris did.
On the other side of the superhero divide, Sebastian Stan - now better known as Bucky Barnes in the MCU - auditioned for Stephen, the lead singer of Sex Bob- omb. According to Euston, "Edgar said it would be better for Lucas Lee " and the role eluded him.
While Wright doesn't reveal the full roster of those who weren't cast in Scott Pilgrim, he did mention that GLOW's Betty Gilpin, Rooney Mara, and Zoe Kazan were all in the frame for playing Scot's ext Pilgrim, Kim Pine.
Yet Scott Pilgrim's cult success has been built on the strength of his ensemble. Brie Larson is Envy, Michael Cera is Scott, and we couldn't imagine anyone other than Chris Evans rocking those eyebrows. Also, I think it went pretty well for these other guys.
