Eric Barone, aka Concerned Ape, has announced that Stardew Valley update 1.5 will introduce two-player couch co-op farming and earn money together onthe same screen.
We already knew, thanks to a July tweet from Barone, that Stardew Valley 's next update would be a big and include "significant new end-game content ", but the addition of local multiplayer is a surprise. It's possible that whatever he's referring to could benefit from co-op on the couch.
You can see a screenshot of local multiplayer in action above, and if you take a closer look you'll also see a load of new content at coming in update 1.5, including new monsters, a new dungeon floor design, what looks like ginger root, and much more. Here is a practical account of some observations from Twitter user Bailey .
The developer has also confirmed that the new feature will be available on PC and console, "although the number of simultaneous players may vary. " PC players will be able to play with up to four players together, while "some platforms " will only support two players.
Barone left a sparse trail of Ariadne's thread teasing the new additions coming to Stardew Valley with update 1.5. In the same July tweet teasing the new endgame content, there's a photo of Willy's shop with a door behind the counter. What is behind the door? Who knows. We also know that thanks to 37,000 votes from the community, the Stardew Valley update 1.5 will add enfin banana trees . As for what's to come, it looks like Barone is just dropping spontaneous hints on Twitter, so we're pretty much at the developer's mercy here.
