Detective David Parish said during an investigation that since the death of Anthony Walgate, 23, in June 2014, he has reviewed his actions regarding the computer.
Data eventually showed that Port searched for drug-related rape videos shortly before arranging to meet with the student.
Stephen Port was jailed for life for the rape and murder of four men.
The inquest jury heard that Port contacted Mr Walgate, offering him £ 800 for an overnight stay .
In another post on the FitLads website, before meeting Mr. Walgate, Port s ' bragged about having sex with a man who used drugs and looked like "a ragdoll ".
However, Det Con Parish did not spot the material and did not 'reported that selfies, sex videos and dating site messages on the laptop, relating to the "way of life " in Port.
The police officer Apologized for his actions as he testified during the inquest at Barking Town Hall in east London, meters from where Port fatally drugged four young men with GHB on une period of 16 months.

Investigation jurors asked if he feels "personally responsible shortcomings ".
" As for the laptop - for the past seven and a half years I wish I could have done it [differently], "he says.
"And that's something I have to deal with.
The hearings are examining whether the lives of victims could have been saved if the police acted differently.
Mr. Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, 22, Daniel Whitworth, 21, and Jack Taylor, 25, were all found dead near Port's apartment in Barking.
Port, now 46, has was convicted at the Old Bailey in 2016 of the four murders and sentenced to life imprisonment.
