Several major websites and online services were down on Thursday during the a brief but widespread outage. Websites including UPS, AT&T, Airbnb, USAA and many others were offline, some showing DNS-related error messages. Popular game services, including PlayStation Network and Steam were also impacted, as was Fortnite maker Epic Games .
Several sites and services are now back. The problems started around 11:30 am ET, according to reports on the Web Down Detector monitoring site .

The issue appears to be due to an outage with the Edge DNS service provided by Akamai, a content delivery network, and acloud services. Just after noon ET, Akamai noted on its status page that it was investigation "an emerging issue with the DNS Edge service.
Akamai subsequently confirmed that a fix was in place and the service was resuming normal operations.
"We have implemented a fix for this issue, and based on Based on current observations, the service is resuming normal operations, "Akamai spokesperson Tim Whitman said. " We will continue to monitor to ensure the impact has been fully mitigated. "
