The tensions related to the confusing effects of a character trait in the game have left at least one State of Decay 2 feeling burnt by developer Undead Labs, who has now issued a apologies and clarifications , PC Gamer Reports .
Steam Marines developer James Seow innocently tweeted about his experience gameplay at State of Decay 2 over the last month, until they found out one of their characters possessed the trait “Hallmarked Nazis.” The essence of the trait is that the character is quick to resolve conflictsts with physical violence, especially when the arguments come from firmly held beliefs.
Materially, the trait just adds bonus damage and makes your character more irritable to others and has been reported as a negative trait.
As Undead Labs refined State of Decay 2 after its release, this trait became less and less nuanced. All of the arguments between the characters had ended up being classified under one umbrella, making any firmly held belief, no matter how ideologically different, the same penalization.
Noticing this, Seow tweeted to both the Undead Labs and State of Decay 2 Twitter accounts asking why the game contained "Nazi shit". Seow was quickly blocked by the Undead Labs 'and State of Decay 2 Twitter accounts.

Undead Labs tweeted Thursday that the Seow crash was the result of automatic blocking software that was inflamed by negative comments regarding the Month of the 'Black History.
Undead Labs went on to say that the "hallmark Nazis " trait was created long before the State of Decay 2 release date in 2018 and was never intended to be a negative trait.
"A deshfranceer actually told us firsthand stories about the Nazis being beaten in the music scene underground, "Undead Labs tweeted." We loved it and boom, the trait was born. It was dishonored as a positive overall trait with a skill bonus - it grants four stars of combat experience and also awarded the most famous characterlikely to argue passionately for their beliefs. The moral system of State of Decay 2, which came later in development, changed the reading of the trait text to highlight the bonus of damage as positive and propensity to arguments as exclusively negative.
"So today this trait has positive skill bonus (white text) and red text in UI due to the likelihood of getting argue, "Undead Labs tweeted." It's been like this for years and we never realized how confusing it was until tonight. It's not common, we have over 1300 traits.
Undead Labs concluded by saying that their next patch will fix the issue by making the trait only have the positive damage bonus and remove the Subtrait "irritable towards others".

hfrance reached out to Seow for comment, but Seow says on Twitter that Undead Labs contacted them via a private message.
