It would not be won yet for the folding iPhone
But here it is, the reality portrayed by The Elec is quite different.
Producing a folding phone requires vision, skills and know-how, of course, but also production lines designed for the assembly of this type of device. We do not indeed manufacture a folding smartphone as we make a traditional smartphone.
And that is precisely the problem. According to our source, there is currently no proof of the existence of a production line dedicated to this type of product in Apple's activities.
Worse still, the brand would not have prepared anything in particular to date, which also means that this folding iPhone could not be marketed, still according to thepredictions from The Elec, before 2024.
And this assuming that it really is, which our source seems to doubt.
No trace of production line
Indeed, to be able to launch a smartphone in 2023, the production line would have to be in place at the start of the year. But nothing seems to prove that such a project is really in preparation. The investigation carried out by our colleagues did not reveal anything.
To make matters worse, Samsung's figures are still quite disappointing, despite the quality of its folding products. Last year, the Korean giant only managed to sell 2.5 million units, while he expected between 4.5 and 5 million. The Elec thinks this is reason enough for Apple not to rush.
Sometimes being the first is not enough and it can be worth waiting for a market to mature before launching into it.
