Ford 's Mustang Mach- E EV is pretty impressive for a first effort on a purpose built electric vehicle. Of course, no new model is without flaws, and owners of a few early examples of Mach-E have found one significant flaw. with the 12 volt battery system.
According to a public reportOn Thursday by The Verge , some owners of these very first Mach-Es are going into their vehicles after leaving them on the charger overnight and finding the vehicle in deep sleep mode. Essentially, their fancy new EV is made of brick.

But how does it go? Well it has to do with how the vehicle is 12 -vo The battery keeps itself charged. In an internal combustion vehicle, the battery is charged by the alternator when the engine is running. In the Mach-E (and most EVs), the 12-volt battery siphons off some of the energy from the large, high-voltage propulsion battery. But in these Mach-Es, the vehicle's computer wouldn't let the bat12 volt terie do this if the vehicle was on a charger.
Without being able to recharge, the 12-volt battery would drain overnight in some cases, and the vehicle would become unusable. The battery could still be skipped, like on an internal combustion vehicle, but because the battery lives in the trunk of the Mach-E, which is electronically locked - with power for the lock coming from the 12-volt battery - you have no luck.
"We are aware that a small number of Mustang Mach-E owners have seen their 12 V battery reach a low voltage condition, " a Ford representative said in a statement. "We have proactively worked with the first owners who encountered this issue to identify the root cause and a solution. In the rare event that this still occurs, customers can now contact their local Ford Certified EV dealer to resolve the issue. probleme. "
Ford issued a technical service bulletin to help its technicians solve this problem, but it does not hasn't turned into a real callback yet.
