Microsoft has come up with another way to market its 7-foot tablet, the Surface Hub 2S: it's perfect for practicing social distancing.
On Tuesday, Microsoft spoke of the benefit by launching pre-orders in the United States for the 85-inch version of the Surface Hub 2S, which goes on sale in January for $ 21,999. (The 50-inch version began shipping in June.)
The 85-inch product is designed to be an interactive whiteboard that businesses can purchase for their employees. Thanks to the touchscreen and built-in Windows 10 operating system, the large screen can double as a tablet to run your favorite office programs.
Know if a business really needs buying a giant tablet is another matter. Due to the pandemic, many employees continue to worker at home . But for companies preparing to bring their workers back to the office, Microsoft believes the 85-inch Surface Hub 2S is suitable for today's COVID-19 environment.
"One of the benefits of a larger screen provided by Hub is that it can help implement social distancing to keep people six feet away from each other while working together, "the company wrote in an blog post today.
Indeed, the massive size of the product means that it offers enough space for several people to work simultaneously on the Surface Hub 2S. But we wouldn't necessarily recommend it. To prevent transmission of COVID-19, it is better to simply keep workers away from each other, rather than breathing the same air.
Nevertheless, Microsoft believes that the product can still function as an important collaboration tool, even forremote workers. For example, the Surface Hub 2S can also be used for video conferencing, thanks to Microsoft Teams .
"With the changes in our work environment and more and more people working remotely, companies are looking more than ever for technology that helps recreate the energy and connection we feel when we are. in the same room. " the company said.
The pre-orders for the Surface Hub 2S may only be available to commercial businesses through certain resellers. The company plans to launch presale bookings in other markets later this year. However, it does not appear Microsoft has yet released technical specifications for the product.
