Google has just published a new version of its browser, Chrome 92. In the program we find performance optimizations and a reinforcement of security. There are also bug fixes.
Chrome 92 is now available for download. The browser is offered directly on its dedicated website or via its update module for PCtists. Google announces performance improvements in particular regarding security. Indeed, this version fixes 35 flaws, the most worrying of which have a severity index of high.
Chrome 92, focus on security
Since November 2020, "Actions" is an improvement allowing to launch certain actions from the address bar of the browser. For example it is possible totype "delete history" so that the browser triggers the operation without having to navigate its menus to find the right option.
Chrome 92 offers a new command as "security check" to launch a browser verification. This concerns several things like its extensions and passwords. We also have “Manage Security Settings” and “Manage Synchronization.”
Site isolation benefits from improvements. This essential security feature separates websites from each other. Extensions can now no longer share processes with each other (Desktop version of the browser). In Google's eyes, this is a major development to strengthen security against malicious extensions.
On Android, site isolation only concerns “high-value sites” because enabling it for all sites would be "too expensive" from a performance standpoint. This concernssites “where users log in through third-party providers, as well as sites that carry Cross-Origin-Opener-Policy headers.”
The browser simplifies the management of access permissions to the camera and microphone. It is possible to do this from the address bar. Pressing the lock icon displays its new entries. Finally, phishing detection is now 50 times faster and requires less processor resource.
