1. Use keywords in the right places
You probably already know you need to add keywords to the pages you want to rank for.
But where you use your keywords is just as important as how often you use them.
Specifically , you want to make sure that your keyword appears at least once in the title tag of your page.
URL of web page:
And in the first 100 words of your content.
For example, I have a page on my site optimized around the keyword: " copywriting ".
And I made sure to add this exact term to these key places.

2. Keep users on your site longer
Here's the truth:
Pogosticking can make or break your Google ranking .
So: what exactly do the pogos tick?
Pogosticking happens when a Google user clicks on your site…
… then "pushes " the search results to find something that actually helps them.
And when someone pogosticks it sends a strong message to Google: "I didn 't like this result. "
Needless to say: if your site doesn ' t do happy users, Google will rank you lower.
The question is:
How do you keep users on your site longer?
Use lots of bullet points and subheadings.
When your content is easy to read , people will spend more time on your site.
(It also prevents them from hitting their "back " button)
As it turns out, bullets and subtitles make your content A LOT easier to read:
Which brings us to our next tip…
3. Find "Suggest "Keywords
You probably already know that you can use Google Suggest to search for long tail keywords :
But what you might not know is that you can use this same approach with OTHER search engines.
And yes, even Bing:
4. Delete zombie pages
Zombie pages are pages on your site that don 't bring any traffic.
They're just sort of… there.
And when you delete Zombie Pages, you may receive more rankings and more Google traffic.
An ecommerce site saw a 31% increase in search engine traffic (not to mention a 28% increase in revenue) when they 'pruned' 11,000 product pages.
And they are not alone .
Proven.com saw their organic search traffic increase 88.3% after removing 40,000 Zombie pages from their site:
Why this strategy works- Does it?
Well, Google doesn't want to rank bloated sites with thin, low-quality content.
Google recently stated that they preferred "one larger page over several smaller pages ":
It 's something I give a LOT of 'attention here at Backo.
To date, I have only published 44 articles on this blog.
And these 44 articles generate more than 120,000 hits per month in the search engines.
5. Do a sector study
best average of get backs from authority blogs and news sites in your niche?
A study of the 'industry.
In fact, BuzzSumo has found this industry study post can bring you a ton of traffic, shares on social networks and mentions in the press.
A few months ago, I noticed that a lot of SEO blogs were talking about voice search.
But I ' also noticed that these messages gaves SEO tips for voice search… without any data or research to back it up.
So we decided to do the first large-scale voice search SEO study .
How was this content it worked?
Even though this message is less than a year old, it is already generated on 900 backs .
The best part?
I don’t Didn't have to do a ton of outreach to get these links.
Because my content provides data to bloggers and journalists…
… they automatically reference (and link to) my content.
6. Add words -keys associated with your content
On-page SEO offers much more than: "make sure you include your keyword multiple times on your page. "
(Although that's important too).
For you cbored in Google today, you should also add synonyms and other related keywords in your content.
Something called Google Hummingbird .
The Google update Hummingbird allows Google to go beyond simple keywords. Instead, they try to understand the subject of your page .
(Much like a human would)
How do you optimize your content for Hummingbird?
Include variations of your main keyword in your content .
To do this, simply search your target keyword in Google…
… and scroll down to the bottom of the results of research.
Add some "searches related to… " to your content.
7. Add text to infographics, podcasts and videos
Yes, the visual content(like infographics and podcasts) is a great way to get traffic and backlinks ensus.
But they have a big problem:
Google cannot understand them!
This is why I recommend adding a lot of text to accompany your infographic, podcast or video.
For example, here is an infographic I posted on my site earlier this year:
But I didn't stop there.
As you can see, I ' have also added a lot of high quality content under my infographic.
And this textual content helped search engines understand what my infographic was all about.
8. Update old pages
Does your site have a lot of blog posts that collect dust?
If c 'is the case, you can probably improve your ranking by updating this post.
Let me show you how it works with a real example…
A few months ago, I noticed that this post from my blog was not performing as well as I expected.
Despite the fact that the content was really good…
… my page was bouncing between the first and the second page for my target keyword: "SEO Checklist ".
So I decided to give this post a major date and update.
Specifically, I added more external links to authority sites:
I have also organized the content into sections to make it easier to follow the steps:
And wrote a new title and a new deion:
( Note: As long as you publishz your dated content on the same url, you don 't have to worry about duplicate content )
And these 3 simple changes quickly propelled my page to the top of Google for my keyword target:
Which led to a BIG bump in the search engine traffic of this page:
9. Speed up your website
The slowness of your website can hurt your Google rankings. Google's "quick update" specifically downgrades pages that load slowly on mobile devices .
This is why you want to eliminate anything that slows down your title quicklysse of the page .
Well, we recently ran a large-scale page speed study .
And we have found that in many cases using a CDN actually hurts the loading speed.
So if you use a CDN, I recommend that you test the speed of your website by turning it on and off.
We also found that third parties (like Facebook's pixel) were slowing things down towards the significantly down.
You can see everything from third parties on your site using a tool such as BuiltWith.com .
And if you find s that are not not very important, delete them.
10. Use the Google Search Console
This is one of my favorite SEO tips .
Here's howit works:
First, login to the Google Search Console .
And head over to the performancert repo:
Then press " Pages ":
This will show you which pages are bringing you the most traffic.
Here is where things get interesting :
If you click on any of the pages, you can see all the keywords for which this page is already ranked .
And if you dig deep, you'll find a LOT of keywords that you didn't even know you were ranking for.
For example, when I ran this report on target this page of my site, I found 3 keywords for which I had no idea of my rank.
Why is this important?
Well, if I rank for these 3 keywords by accident, imagine if I actually tried!
So to get more traffic from these search queries I just need to sprinkle these terms in my post.
And now Google sees these keywords in my content, they'll probably improve my rankings for those search terms.
11. Create content around shoulder niches
Publishing high quality content is the key to one of the most important SEO tips.
But what if you're in a so-called "boring" niche? Isn't it impossible to create content that people will link or share on social media?
Fortunately not ..
All you need to do is create content around "shoulder niches " .
Shoulder niches are closely related topics around which you can easilycreate awesome content.
For example, Mike Bonadio used the to boost organic traffic by 15% :
How did he do it?
Well, Mike was in a niche that couldn't be more boring: pest control .
Now you might be wondering:
"How to create interesting content about pest control? "
Instead, look for closely related niches that are genuinely interesting.
(In other words: "Shoulder niches")
Actually, that's what Mike did:
And that ultimately led to him creating a great infographic on the related theme of: "Pest Control for Gardeners" .
Because Mike 's infographic has been featured on a handful of authoritative blogs…
… his client's traffic skyrocketed:
12. Get backs from your visuals
In a perfect world, website owners would return a link to you when using your graphic, visualization or your infographic.
But we don't live in a perfect world?
aside, I have found that most people arehappy to link to you when they get a friendly nudge.
So if you tend to post a lot of visual content, spend an afternoon performing this technique. >
And I can almost guarantee you'll come away with a handful of backs.
Here are the exact steps:
First, find a visual element on your site.
For example, here is the SEO infographic on the page I mentioned earlier:
Then right click and "copy image address "…
… and paste the name of the file in Google "Search by image ".
And you will get a full list of sites using your image.
Now it is time to find pages that have used your image on their content ... but which do not link to you:
Finally, send them an email asking them to add a link to the original source (you).
13. Create branded keywords
The method ofman in motion.
Upgrading the content.
These are all terms I made up.
And because of that, I rank # 1 on Google for everyone.
This is why I recommend to create your own terms .
Start by developing a strategy, technique, process or concept that is unique to you.
It sounds difficult.
But it really isn't.
All you have to do is take something that already exists… and add a key.
For example , awhile ago, I noticed that a lot of people were building links from guest post .
So I just added a variation where you are presenting an infographic instead of a traditional guest postl.
Then give it's a name.
It's more of an art than a science.
But in general, you want the name to be:
- Easy to pronounce
- Easy to remember
For example, when I started posting guests with infographics, I combined "guest post" and "infographic" into one term: Guestographics .
Finally, spread the word.
This is the key.
In order for your term to gain momentum, you need to promote it like crazy.
In my case, I 've published a case study of Guestographics in action.
Then a few months later I published ANOTHER case study:
I also made sure to mention "Guestographics " in the interviews:
It took a few months to figure out.
But before I knew it, A LOT of people were writing on Guestographics.
And whenever someone talks about this technique, he creates a lien vers moi 🙂
14. Add definitions " What is X "to blog content
This is the one of the most important SEO tips people tend to overlook.
Here's how it works:
When someone searches for a high-level term (like "optimization for search engines ") it looks for a definition.
And like Ross Hudgens points out, results on the first page of Google for defining terms tend to meet the question: "What is X? ".
If you search for" inbound marketing ", 2 of the first 3 results answer the question:" What is the inbound marketing ?:
So if you are looking for a defining keyword, at least some of your content focused on the answer to the question: " What isX? ".
This is why I always include a " What is X "section whenever I target defining keywords:
15. Ranking in featured snippets
You've probably noticed more and more Featured Snippets in the SERPs :
And if you're like me, you're wondering: "How do I get my content in the featured snippet? "
Fortunately, there is no need to guess.
SEMrush recently did a massive study of sit clipse (they analyzed an 80 million keywords).
And they found that adding a question and answer section to your content works great to enter the location of the featured snippet.
This page of my site is optimized around the keyword "Deion of the string " .
Like all good content on this topic, it contains lots of helpful tips for writing a YouTube channel deion:
But I also made sure to include "Snippet Bait " as a short Q&A section:
And it worked!
If you want your content appears in the featured snippet area, try "Snippet Bait ".
16. Find more 'guest posting opportunities
Here's a simple SEO tip that will help you find sites that guests can post to.
First, find someone 'one inyour niche which tends to post a lot of guest posts.
Second, take their picture in their head (you can usually find it on their LinkedIn profile) and pop it into the image search reverse of Google.
Voila! You can see wherever they have posted guests:
And you can use the same process to find interview opportunities (like podcasts).
In fact, podcasts might be the world's most underrated link building strategy.
Well , it's 10x easier to jump on a podcast than it is to present, write, edit and post a guest post.
And just like with a guest post, you get a soft link to your site (in the show's notes):
Unfortunately, finding podcasts can be a chore.
In other words, unless that you don 't use the Google reverse image search:
17. Improve your organic CTR
When youus improve your organic click-through rate, more people will click on your site in search results.
Which means you can get more than traffic… without the need for higher rankings.
When we recently analyzed millions of Google search results to learn more about Google's CTR, we found that using the question title the tags significantly increased the CTR .
So whenever that makes sense, I recommend using a question in your page title.
Here is a concrete example:
