Jonny Gargano beats Bronson Reed
Unsurprisingly, this was the best game of the series at this point. Johnny Gargano is amazing, obviously, and did a great job of whittling down the big man. Bronson Reed has played his part as well, selling injuries to the glove match from the night before to make Gargano's much smaller offense believable.
Much of the match saw Gargano hitting attacking bursts only to be interrupted by a large swing from Reed. Reed would not be able to maintain the advantage, as Gargano would benefit from Reed's fatigue and injury from the previous night's game. The action was brisk, including a wicked backstabber from Gargano who has saw Reed's neck break and later aHuge electric bomb from Reed to Gargano from outside.
Austin Theory got involved at one point, saving Gargano from a fall by putting Gargano's foot on the ropes. Surprisingly, Reed took out Theory with a suicide dive. Reed followed that up with an attempt at a reverse moon jump from the top rope - an impressive sight for such a tall man - but Gargano pulled away. Gargano then hit two DDTs on the top string for the win.
Rating: 4.25 stars. Awesome.
Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart retain tag titles
Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart retained their NXT tag team championships by beating Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. Moon struck a gentle total double eclipse on both LeRae and Hartwell, followed by Blackheart pinning Hartwell after his senton of the top chord.
It was an average tag match which picked up at the endthanks to strong false finishes. Blackheart and Moon used a domineering / chopping tandem movement, which looked awesome, for a two count. LeRae and Hartwell later scored a modified 3-D for another close fall. The most memorable part of the game was a suicide dive that seemed very close to going very wrong. LeRae and Hartwell were outside, but Blackheart landed between them in a way that they weren't able to properly break his fall.
Rating: 2.75 stars. Not much to say about this one. A decent match.
Santos Escobar wins Unified Cruiserweight Championship
In the opening match of Night 2, Santos Escobar defeated Jordan Devlin in a ladder match to unify the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. It took interference from Legado Del Fantasma to get there, as well as a gnarly location that left Devlin shoulder to shoulder.looted on a broken ladder.
The match was not bad but, as far as ladder matches go, it was nothing special . There was nothing you had never seen before, and it wasn't particularly heavy on psychology. There were some daring heights, however, like Devlin doing an inverted moon jump from the top of a very high ladder, a villainous suicide dive into a ladder, and, at the end of the match, Escobar punching Devlin to make the latter to himself. 'crushes through a ladder. and broke it in half.
