Live-action TV series Twisted Metal is in the works with Cobra Kai producer Deadpool Writers

Sony is officially moving forward with live action Twisted Metal TV series finally, with Cobra Kai producer and Deadpool writers on board.

A report today from Variety indicates that the upcoming action comedy series will be based on an original story set in the Twisted Metal universe of writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who have previously worked on both Deadpool films, as well as Zombieland.

The series will be directed by executive producer Michael Jonathan Smith, who also produced and wrote for Cobra Kai. Other production names on board include Will Arnett, Marc Forman and Peter Principato, as well as Reese and Wernick. Twisted Metal was first released in 1995, and has followed a number of sequels, with the most recent being Twisted Metal: Black (originally released in 2001) released on PS4 in 2015 via PSN. The games are all about the demolition derby, each following a different storyline that sort of revolves around "Twisted Metal ", a derby event that takes place once a year and which grants its winner a wish of their choice. The live-action TV series would center on a yet-unknown protagonist trying to complete a delivery to a post-apocalyptic world, in exchange for a promise of a better life. Not much else knows, although it is rumored that the clown character Sweet Tooth - a recurring antagonistic clown who drives an ice cream truck - will make an appearance.

Twisted Metal was the first meadowsEntered publicly as a TV series by Sony in 2019 , and this is the first time we've heard of it since. A Twisted Metal movie had already been announced in 2012 but never materialized. And sadly for anyone who was hoping it might spark interest in a new Twisted Metal game, there hasn't been any news to it for years, and series creator David Jaffe has unfortunately closed its development studio in 2018 more to a canceled project.
