Wushu - Presentation
The word Wushu comes from a combination of two Chinese words: Wu means "war" and Shu means "arts ". Wushu is derived from Chinese martial arts. It is played in many styles; with weapons or with bare hands. Weapons used in the game are sword, broadsword, shortsword, straight sword, spear, and gadget. Wushu is played by two or more people.
This game has been around since the dawn of civilization. It has gradually developed over time. From the beginning itself, Wushu has been practiced around the world not only as a means of self-defense, but also to realize an individual's inner world. It is played so that viewers admire the body language of the players. It is believed that the techniques of fighting between a man and an animal during this era formed the basis of this game.
Soon the popularity of this game spread to Japan, Coand in other countries of the Far East. The original goal of the game was to teach the person the real human mind and then the skills. Other clothes like belts, uniforms were added later to give it a formal sport form.
There are two important types of Wushu -
In this type of Wushu, the participants fight the with each other using Wushu movements.
It involves a set of hand, leg, sweep, jumps, postures and footwork choreographed and styled according to the principles of offense and defense.
Wushu - Objective
Wushu is played for a given duration in the presence of a team of judges and referees. The judges observe the performance all the time. European Wushu Federation, Wushu Association of India, Pakistan Wushu Federation, are some of the regional regulatory bodies for Wushu sport.

Wushu - Equipment

Sanshou play environment
For Sanshou, the competition area is prepared in wood. The arena should be 80cm high, 800cm long and 800cm wide. Here's what it looks like -
It should be covered with soft mats and a canvas surface on top of the mat. The IWUF logo should also be displayed in the center of the platform. Platform boundaries are also engraved with a 5cm wide red line. Within 90cm of the platform boundaries a 10cm wide square line is marked.
Taolu playing environment
Taolu competition takes place on a mat which is 14m long and 8m wide. There should be a mark on the edge of the liner 5cm wide and also in the middle of the longest side line there is a drawn line 30cm longlength and 5 cm wide. Taolu can also be played on a grass field.

How to play Wushu?
Wushu is both internal and external exercise for body and mind, which is very effective in developing a person physically and mentally, and preparing them for any fight. The word "Wu" has five meanings: war, combat, combat, exercise and dance.

Wushu - Basic Movements
Wushu is the sport of demonstration of graceful movements that require flexibility, strength, perfect jumps, twists and return. Here are some basic moves a beginner can try -
Ma Bu - The Horse Stance
This is a basic stance used for almost all Wushu routines. It provides the balance you need to perform more complicated movements. To start with, stand with your feet apart, slightly wider than your shoulders. Lower your knees into a seated position, as if you were riding a horse. Keep the upper body posture straight without being strained.
Gong Bu - The Bow Pose
Stand in a forward lunge position, one foot in front of the other in a straight line. Turn thegently your back foot outward, toes pointing outward. Leave both of your heels on the floor. Lower yourself by bending the front leg about 90 degrees. Extend your back leg. Pull your upper body straight and up, and look straight ahead.
Xie Bu - The Resting Position
Cross your right foot over your left foot. Sit comfortably on your left knee making sure there is no space between the two legs. Keep a good balance to avoid falling. As you lower your body, lift your left heel off the floor. Turn your head to the left while keeping your upper body straight and your chin straight. Place your fists on the hips. Make sure your elbows are tucked in and your wrists are facing up.
Ce Chuai Tui - Side Kick
Stand straight with your hands at the waist and your wrists up. Make fists and bring your elbows closer to your heart.orps. Placing one foot slightly behind the other, bend a bit to gain some preparatory momentum. Using this force, kick the leg that is back to the side. The kick should be as high as possible.
Tan Tui - Sharp Kick
Stand up straight and extend your right arm in front of your chest. Bend your hand at the wrist so that the fingers are facing up. Clench your left hand into a fist. With the left elbow tucked in and the wrist up, place the left hand on your hips. Take your left foot forward as a step and lift your right knee in front of you to reach your hip. In a powerful motion, kick the lower right leg to straighten it. Keep your entire right leg parallel to the floor. During the kick, move your arms as well.
There are different hand shapes used ins Wushu -
Pendant In combat, the different hand positions are called hand shapes .
In this pose, all fingers and thumb are joined to form a hand and the wrist is bent inward. The fingers should not be too bent.
Here five fingers with the thumb are bent. With the change of use of the palm, the thumb is stretched to form a “V” shape.
Similar to the normal punch, the fingers are tightly squeezed with the thumb on the index and middle knuckle.

Wushu - Variants
Wushu is a combination of two types of demos -
It is derived from its name "San" means three and "shou" means arts. Sanshou is a combination of three fighting styles: throwing, hitting and kicking. It is a part of Wushu fighting. Due to these styles, Wushu is different from other fighting sports such as boxing, wrestling and judo. Sanshou was introduced to the international stage in track events in 1979. Taolu is recognized in Asian and Olympic games, and is played in all games. categories like senior, junior or sub-junior.
The uniforms are called Sanshou. The uniforms that are worn by the players are -
A half -black and red pants and a Sando suit.
Half-sleeves with inside and half-pants up to the knee.
Non-group uniforms are short sleeves with long pants and a generally brown beltdark, green, or navy blue color.
The Taiji group uniform is made up of sleeves full of very light colors such as pink, yellow, white or light shades of blue and green.
Wushu - Rules
As the performance sport of Wushu involves two main types, there is a separate list of rules for competitors participating in Sanshou and Taolu. Let's briefly see what the rules are.
Common rules for Sanshou and Taolu
Here are some common rules for Sanshou and Taolu players -
Competitors must compete according to their weight categories. They are required to participate in a compulsory weigh-in session which takes place before the competition. For a fair weighing of each competitor, they must weigh with very light underwear. In addition, if a competitor is heavier, he or she has a little time to reach the required weight.
There are mandatory and individually choreographed routines, which participants must demonstrate in front of a jury.
The participants only start playing when called, after having greeted the judges, coaches and the opponent in the case of Sanshou.

Rules for Sanshou
The rules for Sanshou are -
A fight involves three two - minute rounds, with one minute rest after each round.
Participants must abide by the rules of Wushu style attack and defense. They must not hit their opponents with the head, elbows or knees.
It is illegal to strike the opponent over the head if he is already down.

Attacking the opponent is prohibited before or after calls that signal the start and end of each fight.
Rules for Taolu
The rules for Taolu are as follows -

Competitors must complete their performance, including the first salute, before the scheduled time.
If the participant needs music in the background, event management plays the recorded music. Music should not contain words, words, or verbal cues of actions.
Rules concerning Wushu weapons

Li was born in Beijing, China on April 26, 1963. He began training in Wushu at the age of two. As a member of the Beijing Wushu team, he received Wushu training and won 15 gold medals and a silver medal at the Chinese Wushu Championships.
Despite his youthful age, he competed against adults. According to Li, when he was a child with the Chinese national Wushu team to play for President Richard Nixon in the United States, Nixon asked him to be his garde of the personal body. Besides an expert in different styles of Wushu, Jet Li is also a renowned filmmaker and director.
He is known as a pioneer of modern Wushu in China . He is a Wushu coach who produced the most number of Wushu players in China. He started the career of Wushu coach after graduating from the Wushu department of Beijing Physical Culture University in 1963.
Wu Bin became a coach of the famous Beijing Wushu team and served as president from 1986 to 1992 in the technical department of the China Wushu Research Institute.
Hao started her Wushu training at the age of nine at Wu Bin Sports Academy. As a member of the Beijing Wushu team, she won the championship title national all-around competition three years in a row.
She is the only recipient of six gold medals and a silver medal in a single national competition in history of Wushu China.also received the award of “China's ten best athletes”. In total, she has won over 80 gold, silver and bronze medals during her competitive career in Wushu.
